This has nothing to do with regulating the speed.
It has to do with getting more spins per bang.
And more spins per bang = less gas burned.
Simple as that.
You seem to have a very poor understanding of internal combustion
engines. For the same power rating, no matter how many bangs for each
turn, each turn will require burning the same mass of fuel; unless the
two engines have different efficiency ratings. If your engine turns
the shaft ten times with a single bang and the conventional engine
needs forty bangs to turn the shaft ten times, than each bang of your
engine will need forty times the gas of the conventional engine's
bang.
