US oil tycoon T. Boone Pickens, who is building the largest wind farm
in the world through his company Mesa Power, said he will fund an
aggressive media campaign in support of his "Pickens Plan" for energy
independence. "Natural gas and bio-fuels are the only domestic energy
sources used for transportation," according to the plan, which calls
for 20 percent of US power to come from privately-funded wind farms,
and redirection of natural gas from power plants to the transportation
fuel sector.

"I've been an oil man all my life," said Pickens, but this is one
emergency we can't drill our way out of. But if we create a new
renewable energy network, we can break our addiction to foreign oil.

Biofuels Digest has established a group site at PickensPlan.com, to
track news developments regarding the Pickens Plan, as well as provide
a central point for BD readers to support, propose modifications to,
or oppose the plan.

At what pressure is LNG stored? I've worked at a fertilizer
plants and driven propane vehicles. NH3 and propane are stored at
pressures up to about 150 psi if memory serves. I think the pressure
pop off valves release at 200 psi.
It's hard to imagine the typical urban driver fueling such vehicles.
The hoses and such aren't all that handy to use.

Adsportion tanks are hitting some markets soon, not sure about the US.
Nanoscopic pores in a carbon substrate allow about the same energy
storage as the 3600 psi CNG tanks, but at 500 psi. A company called
Energtek is making a marketing push for the tanks in India and some
Asian and South American countries. Energy storage is about 1/3 of the
same volume of gasoline IIRC.

As for LNG, the critical temperature is -82.7 C, the critical pressure
is 45.96 Bar. Only suitable for niche applications IMO.
