Fractal Zoom Speed

I've written a program that lets me zoom into the mandelbrot fractal.
Once I reach a position that I like, I can zoom right back out to the
"original" mandelbrot image, centering it on the zoomed in position.

Now, I'm working on creating an AVI-file consisting of X amount of frames
from the "original" position, to the zoomed-in position. My problem is, how
do I know how much to "jump" each movie-frame? As it is now, the speed of
the movie is not consistent. I tried dividing it into "sub-steps", and that
works a little better, however there's still problems in between the
sub-steps (there's an evident speed change on each).
So, how do I calculate how much to jump per step, so that the movie appears
to be flowing at a more even speed?
