As you can see my post on the Sierpinski gaskets made using programmed DNA above:

Programmed DNA forms fractal
By Kimberly Patch, Technology Research News: April 6/13, 2005
This article indicates that even if natures isn't using the capability to use DNA for fractal shapes,
it is there and can be used.
In another article they talk about long term storing of information in
bacteria DNA using similar programming of DNA techniques to this one.
Essentially, you set a chemical making machine to setting a sequence of DNA bases and then you splice that into an existing gene in some relatively unused region. One use of this might be to
smuggle information in a way that is difficult to
detect ( as in spying and microfilm).
What Per Bak ( In How Nature Works) tells us is that form or shape is drastically
curtailed by the survivability of the form,
so that pretty shapes may look good,
but can they compete with ugly reality?
It took the "pretty human" 10000 years to win against the ugly Neanderthal. And then only because it seems he developed "society"
so he could gang up on Neanderthals.
At one time it was estimated by gene study that there where only 10000
or less human ( anatomically modern humans).

I bought Dr. Pickovers book “Computer Patterns Chaos and Beauty” some time ago and thats one of the main sources that have inspired me till this day. I agree that the similarities are just speculation and that little proof exists but it makes logical sense to me that nature would choose to store shape dna data in such an efficient way. But then again, it is just speculating on the topology of the organism and not what function that particular topology might have on the organism and vis-a-vis.

Clifford Pickover noticed that some time back ( 80's in his magazine, I think) in certain Julias.
There is a lot of speculation ( some by Dr. Pickover) but little proof that data about shape in DNA is stored in
natural fractal affine data ( L-system like, not IFS).
The fact that many animal shapes ( like fish) can be morphed by affine distortion from one species to another
is given as evidence.

Hello there, I don't know if anyone of you have seen this film or not but I noticed that some of the deep sea jelly animals (Deepstaria enigmatica) bare a startling resemblance to 3D strange attractors. I have been playing with these attractors for sometime now and I always thought they looked very organic.
