Yes. I recogniced after I had written this sentence and forgot to revert it.

I don't think it's rediculous at all. Following the advice of Kerry
above looking at the regions where only a few iteration steps are
necessary, I recogniced that one comes quite fast to the need of several
hundret bit mantissas. And I'm sure I would look quite more in such deep
regions if I had the computing resources.
