I have indeed heard of Feynman's parton model. What about it?

You expressed ignorance of experimental evidence of quarks. There is experimental evidence, from scattering experiments, of structure within nucleons. The name parton is applied to the elements of that structure. Partons may plausibly be identified with quarks.
