Heat drops 1/1000 after 40 years.

I was trying to find out why electric power plants do not utilize the heat in
high-level-waste HLW instead of storing it and letting the heat escape. Why not
keep the waste and squeeze out every last drop of heat for electricity? Perhaps
it is because of some political-legislation that classifies HLW as unuseable.
Made a feeble search as to whether some dumb legislation is preventing the full
use of nuclear waste and apparently in the Carter and Reagan administrations
there was some issue of "recycling" to ward off proliferation. If this is the
case, then I think Congress needs to revisit the issue in a new world of
shrinking energy sources.

If these cannisters can provide 300C for 40 years is good enough for the
construction of a Nuclear Waste Furnace that heats up oil shale. Three such
huge power plants located around Colorado near the Green River Shale should
provide enough electricity for the entire USA for 2 centuries solo.

Questions Karl: Is it better to burn coal close to where the coal is mined and
to have the electricity transmitted over high power lines than to have the coal
power plants built near the big cities and transport the coal there? Which
scenario saves the most energy? I am trying to figure out whether huge Electric
Power Plants built around Colorado would yield the most useable energy or
whether to build the power plants nearby big cities and transport the oilshale
there? I am trying to figure out whether electric power lines are better than
overland hauling of oilshale.

Of course, I do not quite understand the logic of why present day power plants
do not utilize these HLW cannisters.
