The West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center was established to
provide tsunami warning for the West Coast of North America and Alaska.
If they stray too far from their area of responsibility they have the
federal auditors to deal with.

You can be sure, however, that this event will trigger changes. The
Tsunami Warning System in the Pacific (ITSU) is a UNESCO operation.
Since the UN is a global organization there is already pressure to
expand ITSU's responsibilities worldwide.
