Considering the age of the building, I'm sure of it, along with glass and
everything else imaginable, plus some we probably can't imagine.

I think most of them are pretty much aware by now. The problem was the
government down played the hazard at the time, a real crime. Most of us in
the environment business knew better at the time. The firemen knew too or
shouild have been trained to know, but the drive to find victims was too
strong to wait for the proper respirators. A lot of people are paying the
price with chronic respiratory problems.

The problem with asbestos is not toxicity. That isn't to say that there
weren't toxic materials in the dust. Dust, whatever it's composition is
hazardous to ones lungs.
Silicosis will kill you too. With asbestos it is the crystal structure which
leads to a fibrous structure ... sharp needle like structures that do real
damage to the lungs. A lot worse than gravel road variety dust. Asbestos is
really several mineral that occur in a fibrous form. The non fibrous forms
or more importantly non-friable asbestos is not hazardous.

In truth in many cases where the asbestos was encapsulated, removal probably
exposed more people than leaving it where it was. But everyone panicked

But let's not go there.
