Two datum points that happen to be to hand (there are many others):
-abundant flint tools and other artefacts from the North Sea's
'Dogger Bank', at about 20-30m below present water level;
- entrance to the Grotte Cosquer near Marseilles is at about 40m
below present sea level; the cave is heavily decorated with Palaeolithic
art.
