Why do you assume that the spin rate wouldn't change correspondingly
with the change in radius? There is a bulge round the equator, because
(from an equilibrium point of view) that part is going too fast, i.e.,
the faster the Earth spins, the bigger it gets, or putting it the other
way, the bigger it gets, the faster it spins - **IF** there has been
an energy input to the system (like Moon capture)
