Read any good geology books lately?

I've always been chagrined by the fact that megabookstores have shelves and shelves of biological and physics based natural history, essay, and other 'idea' books, but Stephen Jay Gould, John McPhee and Simon Winchester about do it for the geosciences.
Any other good geo-authors people might recommend?
Or even any decent idea based non-fiction...I've got money burning a hole in my pocket, and the Amazon 'recommended' list is lame...
Thanks
Jo
