Re: Early Earth likely had continents, was habitable, according to new study

G'day George,
As Aiden clarifies, we've known about the age and origin of the zircons
from the Narryer Gneiss for about ten years. The fact that these are
zircons of a granitic nature that have been eroded and redeposited as a
(fluvial?) sandstone (and subsequently metamorphosed) demands two
things:
1. Continental crust existed
2. Fluvial processes existed
True, the oxygen isotopes support this, and the hafnium isotopes
support the orginal mantle extraction age - but basic geological
principles tell you the same thing.
cheers
Bill
