Depends what criteria you need to constitute a 'real geologist'.

I mean a degreed, mainstream individual in Geology or Geophysics with multiple published credits in peer reviewed publications related to their field.

I go' a degwee, ..and George published half-a-paper on crinoids, an'
Stuart's published one or two he's prowd of, ...about plte tectonics...

she gets amongst them, .. An' mos' ofuz can spell, ...so we're ok.

Who are youo anyhow? What 'reality' do you represent?

Yes, I have a degree; my thesis on cold water surface travertine was peer-reviewed and *published* (the whole thing, not just an abstract as it was on an aspect of local geology no one else had ever noticed); papers on springs, caves and karst, as well as being a paid geology columnist and lecturer for the past 7 years (pre-degree and post-degree) and having a list of academic and government links to my websites (including some where the USGS is linked to me).

I'm basically shy; I don't like to boast-- none of this makes me a P.G., because of some weird rules for licensure in my state, but I don't think I'm any less serious in my pursuit of geology than those folks.
