Sorry to break in here, but I had to tell you this. My brother is moving
his studio to Florida (Jacksonville). I helped him load up the moving
truck all day yesterday, and he was so glad for the help that he gave me
his old studio soundcard. It's an Aardvark 20/20. It's has the breakout
box with 10 inputs and ten outputs (including two spdifs - 1 in and 1 out),
and 24 bit recording. I haven't decided whether or not I will keep it, but
if I don't, I may offer it to you for a steal! I've looked on the
internet, and when it was being sold for anywhere from $700 to $800. Since
it has been discontinued, and the last set of drivers (they are asio
drivers - the latency I'm getting right now on my system with it is about
11 msec at 44k) made for it was released in 2003, and it isn't supported
anymore, if I decide to offer it to you, I will offer it for a very
reasonable price, if you are interested. Like I said, I haven't decided if
I am going to keep it yet, but I thought I would give you a heads up, and
if I do sell it, you have first dibbs. You may want to do a web search for
information on the system before you decide whether or not you want to buy
it. I think it is comparable to the m-audio 10/10. One thing, though. It
has no MIDI ins or outs. It's purely a digital audio device. But if you
have a mixing board, you can plug lots of channels into this card and
record them simultaneously. In other words, you can record up to ten
tracks from different sources all at the same time. In other words,
theoretically you can record an entire live band mutlitrack session all at
once (that is what I was told, but I will play around with it using
audition and see it can actually be done). I probably have you salivating
by now. Just remember, I haven't decided whether or not I have a use for
it. It may be too much for my purposes. But I will let you know if I
decide not to keep it. You get first dibbs, dude.
George
