Re: Mine Safety Subordinated to Mining Company Interests

John,

I took what I felt was a reasonable, pro-active comment intended to possibly improve mine safety, (cross-pollination from someone familiar with a similar technology in a different environment) and offered it for comment. I am not anti-mine; unlike most people I know that 70% of my electric is coal-fired, and I know the effects that regulation/environmental regs have had on the coal industry (Northern Missouri and Southern Illinois coal mining is all but gone from its former levels, and we're paying the price in importing coal from Wyoming) means greater cost.)

I also know that comments on a usenet group are not likely to inspire change in an industry. I didn't make the initial post (subject line) in this thread. I just jumped in to make my suggestion about Scuba rebreathers, knowing full well about the W65, and other efforts the mining companies have made to protect their employees without coddling them.

Sorry I said anything. Looks like I should redirect my suggestion elsewhere.

 Jo
