As I understand it, we currently have no rocks older than 3 billion years, roughly. Perhaps this dust is older than that and will shed some light on the early moments of the galaxy's formation. Geologists are kind of like rock forensic scientists, in this regard, looking at clues in rock fragments, trying to put together what occurred many years ago.
