Who, by the way, are the morons who design towns that are so
spread out?
For some reason the daughter was asking me what schools I went
to when I was a kid, so I reeled off the list. The furthest was only
just a mile, and of course I either walked or cycled to school. Always.
The daughter does a mile and a quarter each way, but that's because she
goes to a school with language specialisations - the nearer school is
about 3/4 mile away.

Well, in the case of where I live, we have racial integration, so just
because one lives next door to a particular school doesn't mean that that
is the school one's children will attend. We also have magnet schools that
specialize in certain areas of learning. One might be a science magnet
school. Another might be a magnet for aviation. Etc, etc, etc.
