If there is a newsgroup more appropriate to a paleoclimate inquiry,
please let me know.
Years ago I read about a runaway warming event that took place (maybe)
~11 mya. As I recall, an period of increased volcanism raised the CO2
content of the atmosphere, which warmed the Earth slightly and melted
some methane hydrates. This lead to a positive feedback cycle that
melted the rest of the methane hydrates. The whole thing caused a
minor extinction event.
Does any of this sound familiar? I have no idea how to google or Wiki
something like this, without knowing any "names" like "K-T event".
