That would imply that some 8% of the US population have been to Canada and no-other country. Hmmm, that's on the assumption that US-ians can travel to Canada without a passport, which I think I've heard before, but I'm by no means sure of. Again, I think that in Europe the number would be near 100%, even for the Schengen countries.
Till now no passport required. But since 9/11 "do something no matter how stupid" this is due to change. But they also have much more stringent requirements to 'prevent' identity theft. So I will need
original documents from Toronto. Who have put in stringent requirements -ie- in person with identification. So I need to go to Canada before being issued the passport to allow me to return.
My wife has a passport to take trips with her sister. I did not need one in the Army stationed in Italy; trips to Austria, Germany, Denmark,
Sweden, France, & Switzerland. Or for an afternoon in Jaurez with the family. Usually I've gone to Canada with just Naturalization card and driver's license.

I have scores of maps. Over a dozen atlases. A globe. NO GPS.
My kids coming back from the Peace Corp brought me a map of the Niger River basin as my Africa souvenir.
