Yep, we know that but why?

New mountains are currently being built underwater by volcanic
deposits of fresh rock on top of the midocean ridges.
The narrow width of the Trail of the Continental Divide, as well as
the Appalachian trail, remind me of the narrow depressions in the
crests of fast-spreading midocean ridges:

Colorado Plateau may also have a watery origin, just like the
instant sand at lake Vui, where volcanic gases are sprayed into
the oxygenated atmosphere and fall back into the lake as
uniform particles of silica, SiO2.
