That is too bad -- I hope they locate the source of the contamination
and can shut it down.
I'm a wee bit too claustrophobic to enjoy going into caves very much,
but there is one section of the Mammoth system that I'd like to visit
-- Bedquilt, because its topography is used in a text adventure game I
really enjoyed in the 1980s: "Colossal Cave"
http://www.rickadams.org/adventure/b_cave.html
Guess it would be really important to bring that bottle of water in
with me, nowadays.
Note that there's a Colossal Cave in the system, too, but the game is
based on the Bedquilt Cave, they say. Does anybody know if this
pollution is affecting that area of the system?

As far as I know, it isn't affecting that cave. The contamination was
found in the historic part of the cave, which is beneath the visiter's
center (that might clue you in to the likely source of the contamination).
I believe they've had problems there before.
