I just finished a rough draft of an old Joni Mitchell song. I heard
it on an old Ellen Barkin movie last night and it inspired me to try
my hand at it. Here is is. Let me know what you think. Like I
said, it's still a bit rough, bu still sounds pretty good. Enjoy:

Grabbed!
I cann't swap it with an original springtriccle/birdsinging, but you
still have it on YouTube.com (search on 'Himmerland'). You
unintentionally gave me my best christmaspresent. Edward Hennessey
threw me a oneliner in sci.geo.mineralogy that made me shine all day
... you guys are the best.

After I posted the link, I went back and listened to it again. Not up
to my usual standards, I must say. I'm taking it offline until I can
remix it. Ugh. I must have been half asleep to have posted it before
it was done. I'll let you know when the final product is up.

There's a human behind, that's why I like it.
I got to look at the summer shootings and found this the better one (no
obvious fowlup) of the lot. It's one coherent take drifting down the
stream we've looked at before. I've emphasized ease of shooting, no
chaotic dynamic this time, but it's more aestetics than hydrogeology.

That's a pretty cool video, Carsten. I thought it especially neat that
you can hear the birds below the water line.

Yes, isn't it. I did tone it down a bit not to make people anticipate a
singing bird in diving-gear paddle by (neither the trickle nor the bird
is the original sound). I've broadcasted it in Natur.dk to see if anyone
can recognize the bird. The very versatile song made me believe that it's
a nightingale, but the half hour I spent recording it, it stayed hidden
in dense willow. When I got very close, it just kept quiet.
The video is comparably awsome in DV video format, but the 'real' format
is HDV. I cann't tell weather there will be any difference; I havn't got
a HDV-tv, but I pressume that I may have the best experience left yet.
I'm still pondering on how to present my salmon-river takes .. such type
of movie has great predecessors difficult to live up to. Maybe I prefer
to tell the story about my last endavour: I took a half an hour swim
(destination uncertain, but I finally met a bridge) down the small river
into which the cold springs discharge. On the video I can hear how I
start hyper-ventilating becourse it was 10 degrees colder than I
expected, but I wore my wet-suit. My home-made gear is unfortunately not
made for ease of use, and I've ruined a frightening amount of takes by my
own fowling things up. The swimming would be another thing that could not
right away be redone, so I mobilized my utmost to have all things done
right. When you get into the water it turns out to be a bit more murky
than you think, but this time it was very merky .. after quite a while
of pondering, I realized that my own goggles was still on my forehead.
But that's ok as long as the shooting goes well ;o)

Carsten

Whatever kind of bird it was, it sure had a beautiful, melodious song.
I'm not too familiar with European songbirds, so I couldn't help you
identify it. We have a lot of mockingbirds here. One in particular that
seems to come back to my yard every year for the past three or four years
has learned how to mock eastern blue jays, a truck backing up (beep, beep,
beep...), a telephone ringing, and a police siren (woo, woo, woo..). That
last one is very funny to hear coming from a bird. I was outside with my
grandsons one day and told them about it, and they didn't believe me. But
the bird was on cue and started his siren call, and they just thought that
was the coolest thing they'd ever heard a bird do. Keep up the good work
with the video.

I found out what kind of bird's on the video (local name kær-sanger). It has
the same way of imitating other birds, but not as apparantly obknoxious as
your mockingbird :o)
I've felt pushed to upload a couple of holiday-strips of a far worse quality
than they can bear, but to give you a hint of a joyful time, have a look
