Also how thick is the tectonic plate that the UK sits on.
BIRPS (something like British Institutions (for) Reflection Profiling Seismology) is your friend. Google, but you'll find that in some places it's 40-odd km, and a couple of km away it's 30-odd km. That's across the Great Glen (Glen Mhor) Fault, BTW.
I've got an update on that, from seismic, gravity and aeromag. I'll take the relevant diagrams into the orifice tomorrow and scan them, then put them up on one of my websites.
Hi Everybody
Sorry for the delay in responding, my PC has had a mental breakdown.
Thanks to you all for these very interesting answers.
As you will have gathered I know nothing about geology so please bear with me if these questions seem simplistic.
Roughly how long will it take to drill down to 6 miles in depth. Is a hole diameter of 300mm in the "normal" range???
With Thanks
Clive
