OT - newsservers?

Hi folks:
With no warning that I was aware of, UBC has decided to terminate
their newsserver, suggesting that there are adequate free servers
to be found which will suffice for those wishing to read usenet,
though not providing any recommendation, just a pointer to a list
of sites. I am currently trying one, freenews.netfront.net, so
this is also a posting test, but I note that it loads rather
slow by comparison to UBC, and appears to have no spam filter;
the groups are choked with commercial noise which was never
present on the UBC feed. Before I expend the time and effort to
locate a server rating discussion (assuming such a thing exists),
I thought I would ask here if anyone uses a free public server
which they can recommend. Of the groups I participate in, I
think this one has the largest number of friendly and knowledgeable
residents, so this is the first place I thought to turn.
