Yeah, my sister's always moaning about flooding in her area. So I ask her what possessed her to by a house on an estate known as "The Fens".
Sometimes people don't have any way of knowing. I watched a
development of an area which was swamp. After it was done
there wasn't any plant left that would indicate what kind
of water table was normal for the area.
But did they call it "The Swamp" when finished? Perhaps this is a non-mutual-language issue! :-) Back in Blighty, were I come from, "The Fens" can be translated into the vernacular as "The Very Wet and Swampy Region Particularly Prone to Flood Events When Built On".
