Should geologists be allowed to map alone? Most of my field work has
been alone.
I think that no matter who you are, if you go into the wilderness alone, you put your own life into your own hands. It's best to work in pairs whenever possible. If not, take whatever protection you need (that is legal, of course). I prefer to work as a team, but have worked alone, and I know geologists who've spent weeks in the wilderness alone mapping, so go figure.
The woman's family has my sympathy.
