Amen to that, Jo. No need to kill a snake unless it's a very rare
situation. Not that I have a problem doing so if it's necessary, but it's
hardly ever necessary...

I agree. Ironically, although I've encountered dozens growing up and
working in snake country, the only times I killed them was under orders
while working for the Park service .... in high density visitor (idiot)
areas.
As for Cute, you've never seen ugly till you run across a 6 foot plus
diamond back. Just plain ugly with a faded pattern. A 18' anaconda rates
a lot higher on the cute scale. Of course it was well fed and "tame". ;-)
Now cute is a 6" California diamond back pattern and colors still bright and
sharp.
