No they are not. Ether as used by physics in the late 19th century
had nothing to do with quantum foam. Particularly since QM wasn't
developed until the 20's.

Of course it has nothing to do with the ether in the 19th century. At
that time, they thought is was static, while ether is dynamic.


"Ether" was an expression used to identify the medium through which
electromagnetic waves propagated. I don't see that has much connection
to the vacuum energy.

I doubt he's looking for such a mechanism. But he would certainly look
for it if he knew about global expansion tectonic.
