There's proof now -- it made a pit and they found some of it at the
bottom: Chondrite!

I thought for sure it had been local volcanism with a coincidental
meteor passage seen by local people. And it was so small, too; then I
did a little quick Net searching and discovered the smaller ones will
come in sometimes and create a pit or a tunnel and can be found at the
bottom.
Of course, the fetor and illness aren't from the meteorite itself; the
article reports they are checking the ground water, presumably for
contamination from whatever ground substances were released during the
impact.

It's a brilliant surface in that sunlight. The horizon seems quite
close to you because the curvature is so much more pronounced than
here on earth. It's an interesting place to be. I recommend it.
