The differences in rotation rates of stars shows how the deviation
from a perfect sphere is dependent on how fast the composition at the
Equator is moving and how the speed diminishes to zero at the poles -

The generalised principle based on differential rotation also applies
to the interior of the Earth where the molten composition moves at
1000 miles per hour at the Equator and diminishes to zero miles per
hour at the geographic poles.
For those who wish to argue for a dynamic which does not require any
reference to rotational dynamics of the Earth's interior,I have left
the other thread open, most certainly 'convection cells' apply to those
people who have yet to make the leap in combining the generation of
planetary shape and crustal motion under a common rotational
mechanism.
