State bill prefiled for the legislative session 2008:

Current Bill Summary

"SB 716 - This act provides that the official dating standard used by
the state of Missouri shall be A.D., or Anno Domini, and B.C., or Before
Christ. Neither the state, nor any political subdivision, shall use any
other designation."

(Obviously, this simple wording does not take into consideration the
fact that state universities and the
geology/environmental/archaeological divisions of the state have a need
of non-Americanized Christian-centric age/date schemes, much less people
who follow other calendars (like observant Jews, Muslims and Orthodox
sects.)

Interestingly the fellow who filed this has has a J.D., (law degree) and
a wife who is a Ph.D. in something. Never let a little education get in
the way of a ludicrous proposal!

Yes, I've already made these points to my local State-Senate-critter.

AD and BC are the standard in the west. Do you find being American or
Christain offensive?
A legal standard for dating is needed. Using AD or BC does not interfere
with an university using BP in the geology department or any other dating
system for scientific use.
Radiocarbon dating uses a date that starts before the atomic tests. That
system would not be of use in determining some ones date of birth if they
were born after 1945.
