Another part of the problem is that there never *was* any 'Tethys'.
It's a figment of imagination of the likes of Steve Dutch, and that
other doozie he gets his images from, who are unable to make sense of
simple geological associations without having to invent rubbish such
as a 'Panthalassa', ..(and a 'Tethys'), ..and suck simple-minded souls
into a morasse of untenable assumptions. The African Plate is - and
always has been - diverging from Eur-'asia' in just the same way as is
(as Mr Krupa says) Arabia, ..as is India when it gets half a chance
when that great gross Himalay-o-gram gets off, takes its money, ...and
runs.
(And the Americas too. And Australia. And Antarctica... ... all
diverging.)
