My reply would be:

Forget it! The scale of large volcanoes is so big that this sort of
"engineering" is far beyond our capabilities.

Secondly: If lava is depressurized it will release massive amounts of
steam (this is the "explosive" of volcanoes - except in cases of
basaltic stuff like on Hawaii). Steam acts is a "bond breaker" in
silicious slags (which lava is in essence) making them less viscous.
It the water comes out (due to lower pressure) the lava gets thicker
again.

Result: Kaboom! (In case of high Silica / high Alumina lava's)
