There's information that a non-asian audience might glean from that
article. For example, although American's were fixated on Florida's
hurricanes, at the same momentsin time Japan was experiencing it's own
hurricanes, usually on the same dates. We can't begin to discuss the
rarity of polar opposite storm coincidences. As you could see, if you
weren't so sleepy an inattentive (yawn), Americans can't even cope
with the highly unusual events they are experiencing first-hand, let
alone pay attention to any part of the world that is not under US
military conquest (and they don't pay good atention to those under
military boots either).

2004 is shaping up to be a bumper year for typhoons. The season's
18th typhoon made landfall Tuesday morning on Kyushu, bringing to a
record seven the number of tropical cyclones that have landed on the
Japanese archipelago so far this year. The figure is twice as many as
normal.
Unusually high sea temperatures in the tropics are churning up more of
the thermal energy that causes tropical storms, according to the
Meteorological Agency. Normally by the end of August, there would have
been only 14 typhoons. This is troubling news given that the high
typhoon season has only just started.
Also, this year there have been more casualties and damage than usual.
In July, torrential rains devastated wide areas of Niigata, Fukushima
and Fukui prefectures and the typhoons that struck Japan during the
three months through August left a total of 44 people dead, according
to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency. The figure is close to the
total number of casualties caused by winds or flooding last year. In
particular, the deluge of rain that ravaged Niigata and Fukushima
prefectures earlier this summer killed more than 10 people each as did
Typhoons No. 15 and 16.
