I requested such a "decrorative weather center" as a birthday present and
I was given one from Home Depot in the $35 Cdn range. The barometer did
not work (the needle would not even move in response to changes in
pressure) but the dial thermometer and hygrometer did (at least, the
hygrometer needle moved in response to changes in humidity and gave
readings that seemed to make sense). I asked for the set to be returned
and substituted for a new one, with the same result. I am on the third
weather center and the barometer still does not work (I have not even
tried to adjust it for altitude, so I cannot have broken it by trying to
adjust it). I will soon be sending the barometer back to the manufacturer
because the warranty is for 1 year. This is the "decorative weather
center" made by Springfield Instrument Co. On the box it says that the
instruments were made in the U.S.A. but the instruction pamphlet says they
were made in China. The instruments are mounted in line vertically in an
oval wooden panel, and are all mechanical dial type.
