large negative error: error is increasing or decreasing?

Hi,
It doesn't really belong to this issue. However, I really like
meteorology issue.
But usually I am confusing to the following question:
Say x changes from 0 to -10.
In math, x is decreasing. But if x means error, the error should be
increasing but not decreasing.
How should I decribe it?
(1) the error is decreasing ? (I don't like it, it's misleading.)
(2) the error is increasing ?
I much appreciate it for your help.
