Agreed David, you should be true to yourself and your clients. You
obviously are familiar with the term and its connotation, so use it
accordingly and give those people that earned their title that respect.
Josh, on the contrary, most of today's armed force forecasters are degreed
meteorlogists. The past "weather schools" and "met tech" training programs
have long since been replaced by required collegiate/university degree
programs prior to being able to provide such services. Just a
clarification.

My position is that as long as it is CLEARLY stated on our forecasts and
website that not all of us are degreed, but all of us are either
graduated or within 1 or 2 semesters of graduating, there shouldn't be a
problem. Her position is that anyone wanting to forecast for us can be
called a meteorologist. Any thoughts on this?
Saying something like "90% of our forecasters are degreed meteorologists"
would be the best.
There are lots of great forecasters who have experience
without the formal degree.
There are lots of very good just-degreed forecasters, many
with years of "practice" forecasting. But there really
is no substitute for operational experience.
Degreed or non-degreed, years of operational experience
is what you want to advertise.
The Air Force and Navy do quite well with non-degreed forecasters,
as do many airlines and aviation service companies that hire out
of the AF/Navy pool.
One other argument I made was that I have a friend who is at the same point
as I am in the meteorology program and he works at a TV station as an on air
personality and they call him a meteorologist. If they can call him a
meteorologist, I would think I am in the same boat. If you were to look at
our website, you could clearly see all of us are in school.
