The biggest difference between the Sportrak and ther Meridian is the SD card
support. The meridian allows you to use off-the-shelf SD memory cards to
expand your memory up to 512MB. That's a lot of maps!.
If you got, say the Sportrak Map with it's small internal memory you will
quickly find that you can only load a small area. If traveling in a car on
an longer trip (not just across town) you'll likely drive right out of the
map.
Since you indicate you want to use it for car use, you'll need the Sportrak
Pro or Meridian Gold for use with DirectRoute (streetmapping software).
