Hi Yan,
onboard large ships, you will find 2 or three GPS, all located on the top
deck, above the wheelhouse. More and more frequently, one or 2 of these will
be a differential GPS, to get a better accuracy, around 3 meters. With GPS
alone, you get around 7 meters. The GPS are very rarely used in conjonction.
ONe is for the electronic chart, one for AIS (Automated Identification
System) and a spare.
