I'd use a pocket PC with download software to store the waypoints on flash
cards. (Must still be able to buy one that runs on AA's?)
Or multiple GPS's
A 60C stores 1000 waypoints, talks via a serial connector (or USB if you
have a host) to PPC's... Software is free... Take lots of cards for
multiple backups.
The problem with using multiple GPS's is what if you loose one after it's
full...
