Could you explain in more detail exactly what you will be doing.
It's unclear what you mean by "map structures", and that may
affect the advice you are given.

The clouds make no difference, and neither will the rain, but
wet vegetation may be a factor. Take a look at the "GPS reception
in trees" and "Buying a GPS receiver" pages on my website.

Most consumer GPS receivers don't have capacity for 3000 waypoints,
but many Garmin models have 1000 waypoint capacity. One approach
may be to purchase multiple receivers, which also has the advantage
of having a backup if one of them fails or is lost/damaged.
