OK, I've been digging through this group, as well as several very good
review sites (thanks gpsinformation.net, dale depriest, and
www.pocketgps.co.uk) and I *think* I have narrowed my quest for my first
GPS down to two models the Sportrak Pro & Sportrak Map. As best I can
tell the ONLY difference between these two is the extended memory.
Here's my question... I plan to use this primarily for hiking/biking and
maybe even some VERY limited coastal navigation all within the New
England area (hiking primarily in the White Mtns.). Will the smaller
memory of the Map version be a real issue for loading Topo's for a
weekend of day hiking or biking, say in the Kankamangus region? Ideally
I would like to be able to leave the laptop at home, go hiking or biking
for a weekend and bring back any data for good trails I've encountered,
as well as the obvious of using the GPS to assist w/ on-trail navigation.
Oh, and the other factor at work here is that the ST Map will run me
about $100 less than the Pro. Am I likely to regret being stingy w/ my
$100?
Thanks

ps - if someone has suggestions for software and or software/gps combos
that would fill my need more appropriately, feel free to chime in.
