Lot's of software that's compatible with Garmin and other GPS units.
http://gpsinformation.net/ lists quite a few of these.
It would help if you told us about where you are since mapping software
is frequently specific to certain regions of the world.

which shows the tracklog of a walk around my neighborhood?
That was done using the USAPhotoMaps program downloadable at jdmcox.com
The same program will also display tracklogs overlaid on USGS topo maps.

Yes.

Yes - your Geko manual should provide details of how to set up the
tracklog options based on either time, distance traveled, or auto mode
which adjusts the number of points based on how predictably you travel
(more curves give you more points).

The Geko supports an active tracklog of up to 10000 points.
