GPSMAP76S and routing

Hello all. wonder if someone can help me figure something out.

When I initially got my GPS receiver and Metroguide5.0, when creating a
route, it would follow the road. It still does. But, after transferring to
the gps, what shows up on the GPSMAP76S is the route following the road for
the first few turns then taking of in a straight line to the destination. No
matter if "lock to roads" is on or off, I still get the same results. This
is from home using the simulator mode.

Either I don't understand correctly the lock on to roads feature, or the
unit is defective. I spoke with Garmin about it, but no help. So, thought
I'd give you guys a shot at it.

thanks, Gus
