Hans-Georg,
The Barometric Altimeter in the 76CS works very well when calibrated
to the proper altitude. In fact, I have measured it several times
against the weather stations readings out of Pontiac and was with
1/100th of on Inch of their reading, and most times right on. Using
multiple maps like Topographic and City Select for any area you might
be traveling in allows you to calibrate the altimeter, therefore
making the Barometric Pressure reading much more accurate.
Using mine I have been able to tell low pressure was coming 24 hours
before the weather actually changed. So I would not consider this
funciton not to be worth much, especially if I were out backpacking in
the wilderness.
I enjoy your posts.
Roger
