NG Topo & GPS V Waypoint Issue

I'm a new National Geogrpahic Topo user and I have a Garmin GPS V. I
downloaded and installed the latest program update off the NG site which
brings Topo to 3.4.3.

I have an issue when importing waypoints into Topo from the V. I have the
GPS settings in the program set for Garmin / GPS V but the waypoints are
stopping after 2 (of 55) and displaying a message that there was a
communications problem. The waypoint names (all 2 it reads in) also have
||| in front of them. I'm 99% sure the communications settings are correct
because I can read in the entire track log from the GPS V into Topo so it
seems to be communicating properly.

I did some searching and found a couple hits but they seemed to be for some
folks that didn't even have GPS V listed in the drop-down list of units.
Uninstalling / Reinstalling fixed that and they seemed fine.I tried playing
with the model, selecting different ones, but the same thing happens.

The exact pop-up message from Topo after it says 2 of 55 waypoints were
successfully imported is:
The GPS stopped responding. You may want to check the connection and try
again.

Any ideas? Remember, it reads in the entire track log without an issue. If
it matters, I have the Norteastern version of Topo.

Thanks in advance!
David
