true. i recall people coming in here asking about DIRECTV and Comms
Satellite a few times.

of course. it does have that history though and i was joking on it ;)
don't many a server still block feeds from that hierarchy?

yeah. although 'gps' has become synonymous with the U.S.
implementation, so it could be confusing to new folk.

i recall another issue was whether it belonged inside .geo. or not.

i think with the explosion in the use of Google, the names almost
don't mean as much as they used to. i'd bet many a new folk are
searching and hitting links w/o even looking at Newsgroup: they're
lookiing for hits on Subject:

i recall the main reason for not creating .gps and .galileo was that,
at the time, there wasn't enough posts in each distinct category to
warrant it. of course, w/o it you can not only be on-topic in either
case, but also when posting about Transit or Omega :D

with EGNOS due up to the plate soon, one would expect the traffic to
increase and maybe splitting should be revisted, as there'd be more of
an argument for it with the keepers

i think the same argument held true at the time on .<brand name> . one
option was .hardware and .software and i think there was .theory as
well, to have a place for receiver-independant posts.

.hardware works for me. you can always
