On almost every installation I've done, the laptop is on a stand which
puts the screen top even with the dash and directly below the rear
view mirror. Glancing at the screen is no different than glancing in
the rear view mirror and it keeps the machine securely fastened down
and away from the airbags. A loose laptop is nothing but an expensive
flying brick in an accident and an airbag propelled laptop can kill
you.
We had one very expensive failure when somebody had the bright idea
to make a HUD out of a remote screen on the dash - reflecting up on
the windscreen. It worked (sort of) but was far too distracting to be
safe while driving. The center position is safe to use and works well.
