It shouldn't matter to the unit whether the two power connections are
wired to 0V and +12V or to -12V and 0V. One option is to install a
cigarette-lighter jack with the normal ground connection wired to -12V
and the normal +12V connection wired to ground. Just make sure that no
metal part of the jack (other than the -12V contact) can come in contact
with a grounded part of the car and put a fuse in the wires going to the
jack. But there's a chance that someone might try to use the jack for
something else which may have exposed metal parts connected to the
nominal ground contact (-12V in your car). That could cause a short and
blown fuse if it then touches any grounded parts of the car.
So it might be safer to use a different type of two-wire connector using
Garmin part 10495-02 to get you the bare power wires and an audio jack
(or the equivalent for the Magellan unit).
